New Port Equipment Reaches One of the World's Most Remote Islands

Forkliftcenter delivers new port equipment, including a new Kalmar Reachstacker, MAFI terminal tractor, trailers and accessories to the island of Saint Helena, with regional partner Right Equipped Solutions assembling, servicing and training operators on the ground and ensuring strong regional equipment support into the future, securing the island's monthly supply lifeline.

RUPERT'S BAY, SAINT HELENA

One of the most isolated inhabited islands on Earth has received vital new cargo-handling equipment for its port. Forkliftcenter, the Netherlands-based international equipment supplier, has delivered a new Kalmar Reachstacker and MAFI terminal tractor, together with trailers and accessories, to the Port of Saint Helena at Rupert's Bay. The equipment was assembled, serviced and brought into full operation on site by Forkliftcenter's official regional partner for Southern Africa, Right Equipped Solutions, headquartered in Namibia. The project was funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

Sitting in the middle of the South Atlantic, roughly 1,200 miles from the nearest coast of Africa, Saint Helena depends on its port for survival. Containers carrying food and essential supplies arrive by ship just once a month, making reliable port equipment fundamental to the island's resilience. With the previous Reachstackers having become unreliable, that monthly lifeline was increasingly at risk.

The equipment was successfully delivered to the island by Global Shipping Center (GSC), overcoming the logistical challenges of reaching one of the most remote ports in the world. Working alongside the island's Port Control and Government Garage teams, the new equipment was assembled on site, and all machines were brought into full operation. The entire project was completed with ease. Beyond assembly, the team serviced the equipment, demonstrated proper long-term maintenance, and provided hands-on training so that local maintenance crews and operators can run both machines safely and independently going forward. The aim is not a one-off delivery, but the beginning of a lasting partnership to support Saint Helena's infrastructure and logistics development into the future.

The project reflects a partnership of strengths: Forkliftcenter as the international supplier of world-class equipment, spare parts, and service, and Right Equipped Solutions as the dedicated regional partner delivering not only direct equipment supply but also strong service support, assembly, maintenance, training and ongoing support across Southern Africa. It is an approach the partners sum up simply: think global, act local. From the busiest hubs to the most remote ports on the planet, the goal is to ensure every operation, no matter how isolated, is right-equipped for whatever lies ahead.

For Forkliftcenter, the project marked a significant milestone. “St Helena represents the 150th country to receive equipment from Forkliftcenter, making this a particularly proud moment for our team,” said Adriaan Vos, Managing Director Americas, Forkliftcenter. “Working alongside Right Equipped Solutions and the Government of St Helena, we have shown how strong partnerships can overcome even the most remote logistical challenges.”

That sentiment was echoed by Right Equipped, who led the work on the ground. “Delivering equipment to one of the world's most remote islands requires trusted partnerships, technical expertise, and long-term commitment,” said Henner Rodenwoldt, Managing Member of Right Equipped. “We are proud to have worked alongside Forkliftcenter and the Government of St Helena to deliver a solution that will strengthen St Helena's port operations and support the island's future growth.”

The St Helena Government has warmly welcomed the new equipment. “I would like to thank Forkliftcenter and Right Equipped for kindly supporting St Helena and delivering essential new equipment for our Port. Their technicians have been working alongside Port Control and Government Garage to ensure the new reach stacker, tractor and trailer are fully operational,” said Gillian Brooks, Minister for Safety, Security and Home Affairs, St Helena Government. “The new equipment, funded by the UK Government, provides resilience to the Port and should improve the efficiency and effectiveness in cargo operations. Gaining support from suppliers such as Forkliftcenter is immensely appreciated and we look forward to hopefully working with them again in assisting us with our future equipment needs.”
