Colombia is rapidly modernising its environmental policies, and recent developments in emissions regulations are particularly relevant to companies operating in the heavy equipment and port machinery sectors. Since January 2023, Colombian regulations have required all heavy-duty vehicles manufactured or imported into the country to comply with the Euro VI standard or an equivalent standard. This update aligns Colombia with stricter global standards and forms part of the country’s national initiative to reduce air pollution and meet international environmental targets.
Furthermore, on 21 May 2024, Colombia signed the Zero Emission Vehicles Declaration, committing to ensuring that all new car and van sales are zero-emission by 2040. Although this declaration mainly targets road vehicles, it reflects a broader shift towards cleaner technologies, which is likely to influence non-road mobile machinery such as reach stackers, forklifts, and terminal tractors in the near future.
